Rosyth Quarry clean-up - SAVE OUR QUARRY!!

Four weeks ago I proposed a clean up of Rosyth Quarry. A small sun trap with easy access just over the water in Fife, this place is great for beginners witha concentration of easier graded climbs as well as boasting a couple of harder gems.

Over the last couple of years the problem of rubbish and glass has escalated and started taking away from the atmosphere which can be rather charming on a sunny day when there are a few people there.

The idea is simple: DO SOME CLIMBING, MEET LOCAL CLIMBERS, DO SOME CLEARING UP, BBQ SOME FOOD, DRINKS PROVIDED AS WELL AS SOME EQUIPMENT (GLOVES, BIN BAGS, LITTER PICKERS AND A SKIP!)

LATEST NEWS RE: THE "CLEAN A QUARRY DAY" PROJECT:

- Proposal by George Wimpey to back-fill the quarry: this can't be allowed to happen, sign this petition online NOW!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/RosQ ... tures.html
- An article appeared in the Scottish Mountaineer May issue publicising the event, its also on the MCofS website
http://www.mcofs.org.uk/news.asp?s=2&id ... ess%20News
- UKC has proved invaluable for generating debate and getting the petition linked to and I've emailed all the local climbing clubs - thanks to everyones kind emails of support.

- If anyone can help with sourcing some hand brushes, secateurs (sp?) or wheelbarrows please get in touch!!

ALSO: I'd like to start compiling an email list of interested people, so if you haven't emailed me already, please do so - this way closer to the time of the event I can get in touch with everyone more reliably!

I'll help if I can make it. Pick a time and I'll let you know is probably easiest, since even I don't always know what I'll be doing very far in advance.

sounds like a good idea - are you planning just cleaning up the rubbish or gardening (generally and on routes). Would probably be worth talking to the council about them collecting the large items. If i'm around i'd be happy to help

Dave - don't know. :D

Rubbish mainly, some gardening would be good. Depends what the councils response is... what equipment we can get for free and stuff. First things first: we need people!

You got any experience in organising sumat like this?

i'm in....might have a couple of people lined up to join in too, do you think they may also get to do their first outdoor route? Just one or two easy routes....

the adverts for the forum are a little unnerving. does everyone else have 2 secret crushes flashing up at them!

I went down today and it looks like someone's already gotten started cleaning the place up. at least most of the big stuff (bikes, various car parts, et c ...) is in a pile. still a lot of cider bottles and beer cans about though.

I think we might need to firebomb the place to get rid of the neds though. maybe a few strategically placed lengths of piano wire would tech the dirtbikers a lesson.

RIGHT: If you havent heard the news you have been sleeping. But there has been a proposal submitted to the local council at rosyth for the quarry to be back filled. This is a complete disaster as it is an easy access quarry with 30 years of history to it.

So: sign this petition online now!!! And make sure you come to the clean up on the 14th June!!!

THIS SATURDAY!! BE THERE PEEPS!

Bring some bbq food and some enthusiasm and your climbing stuff if you want to get some routes in too.

We'll be there from 9am.

A minibus hasn't been organised but is there any chance of taking one - anyone know? Jon, would you be available to drive one?
