Does anyone have the Ogwen and Carneddau guide book kicking about?? Reckon it might be a good club investment!

I don't but might consider buying it for myself. I do have a selected guide which covers quite a lot.

Website for the hut we are staying in

If all goes to plan i'll be at the hut when everybody arrives on the minibuses. (I should get the keys and any info sheets quite soon)

Are you not travelling down with the club Dave?

Not sure when Christian and I will come up but we will definitely be there for some or all of the weekend. Might have some other stuff to do but we're definitely keen to meet up.

What time will people be there on Friday night? Will people be up and out early on Saturday morning?

Just looked at the hut website - sleeps 30 so I'm guessing there might be room for another two small ones? How much is it per night (we're very cheap these days)?

the hut is £4/person/night.

I'm at a conference in wrexham Wednesday-Friday so will be heading over from there on friday afternoon. I'd guess the buses will be arriving quite late, not sure if there is a plan for one to try to leave early (if two go)

Well it's going to be something like a 6-7pm departure, giving the limiters its going to be about 1-2am before we arrive.

Think I might get on to the estates office about my test....

Oh joy, motorway all the way at 62mph.

Bagsy I get to be on the 1st bus.
Would it be too harsh to suggest that the 2nd bus leaves at a fixed time regardless of who has managed to get themselves on it or not? Might make people a bit more punctual...

No, because there are some poor souls who have got lectures through to 5:15, including class tests worth a not negligible amount of the total marks for the course! I should be there in time, but not if I have to dash back in to Dalry because I've forgotten something important!
What are the arrangements as regards food and cooking, bags besides primary rucksacks, and getting off the bus early? I'll be coming in off a full day's lectures, so I'll definitely have a day-bag's worth of uni stuff, but would there be room for a second big bag? I'm intending to visit family near Bristol over Easter, and taking the train from Chester or Crewe would save coming all the way back to Edinburgh only to come all the way back down again.

personally while i think it's important to set the departure time after peoples lectures finish (within reason ie no point waiting for one person who finished at 8pm for example). A fixed departure time after this encourages people to be on time and if something does go wrong outside of their control (ie bus breaking down lecture/lab/meeting over running) to get in contact with drivers asap rather than having people standing around trying to call the person who hasn't turned up. The only people i'm ever happy waiting for putting back the departure time for are the drivers who are so essential to clubs.

Sorry alex but personally i view having forgotten something as not a good excuse for everybody else to have (not saying they probably wouldn't) to wait, I mean what if you got back to the bus and remembered something else dose the bus wait again? - how far is too far for someone who needs to go back home to get something they forgot? (it would take me more than one and half hours - and other more time)

In terms of bag sizes there is no need to take sleeping mats to this hut - so that should free up some space (but it would be good to take the bouldering mat possibly)

I wasn't saying I intend to go back between lectures and leaving, just that making a fixed time and keeping it too rigid would risk people being left behind through no fault of their own. OK, bad example with having forgotten something when you get to the bus. I meant more like having to go back, thinking you've got time, and getting held up, only to get onto campus 5 minutes after the bus leaves.
I take it we would be leaving the hut at about midday on Tuesday, as on Skye? Just so I know when to book tickets for.

Dave - Can I confirm that we've got matresses in the hut, but no sheets etc, i.e. sleeping bags but no roll mats required. That's what I've gathered, but I wouldn't like to tell everyone not to bring roll mats only to find wooden bays.

Alex - And anyone else in a similar position for that matter, let the club know via email if there is a point you can't arrive at the gear shed before (i.e. 7pm if you have a 1715 finish, and can't bring your bag into uni with you for some reason).

If anyone forgets their boots, I put forward they be cast out of the club, forever! :P

Andy - unless they've changed it since i was last there that is correct

If people don't want to carry 4-days worth of luggage around uni with them, what about leaving it in the gear shed in the morning? I would be prepared to be there at e.g. 9:00 or whenever to open it if someone will lend me a key.

My comment about fixing a departure time wasn't meant to penalise people but just to avoid needless faffing or causing a bus load of people to wait for one person who was too lazy to organise themselves.

I should be fine in terms of kit, providing my boots are fixed by Thursday (and if not I'll hire a pair from Tiso's for the week). I don't need access to the gear shed in the morning, I have a bit of an unspoken arrangement with Steve King that provided I can get to the music storage rooms behind LT4 before the first lecture starts, I can leave bags etc. by the set of timpani to pick up after LT4 is clear. Presumably this would also be available to others with large amounts of kit to drop off, just don't be too obvious about it please.

I could do with some info about the arrangements for Tuesday. What time would we be looking to leave, and would I be able to get off to catch a train from Chester, being the main questions.

it all really depends on what peoples plans are on the day. There's no fixed plan. There are thoughts of small walks, half a days climbing, some climbing somewhere on the way back north, or just bum about some of the morning heading back to Edin with maybe a short game of meet the family!

If it's crucial for you getting to Chester for trains, you can get to Betws-y-coed station for a 2 hour train (haven't mentioned Crewe as you have to change in Chester to get to Crewe...). If you're wanting to get dropped off it would actually work better to go for Warrington Bank Quay or Even Hartford as these both sit on the west coast main line, and aren't more than 10 minutes drive from the M56.

Local knowledge ftw!
