Can I just ask how many places we've got in the Smiddy hut? I know there's a limit of 12 in the bus, but with Liam and Lucy going up independently, I don't know how many places are left on the weekend.
I'm only asking cos I don't know whether I can go yet so I was wanting some clue as to how busy it's going to be...

Craig and Liam, you suggested on the sign-up sheet walking in towards Beinn Dearg on Friday night. I take it that's for climbing (please correct me if I'm wrong), so is anyone else interested in going that way for a long walk? I have a tent, currently stored in the gear shed, which can sleep 2 or 3 depending on the amount of kit taken.
The Munros book I've got calls it 7 to 11 hours for either Beinn Dearg/Cona'Mheall/Meall nan Ceapraichan or Seana Bhraigh/Eilidh nan Clach Geala, both routes from the road at Inverlael, but it looks as though there may be a possible campsite a fair way up that path which could make either of those a feasible Sunday route. I've not had a look at an OS map for the area, so I don't know any details, but it would be rather long days whichever was done.
I'd think 12 in the Smiddy could get a bit cramped, but if some are in tents then we might get away with bringing a bus-load.
Yes, I know, I'm getting over-ambitious again, but if anyone else wants to give it a go I'm willing to try. If not, I'm not too fussed about going over An Teallach again, so I may stay in Edinburgh and try to get a ticket for the Fairport Convention concert on Friday night. Hence no sign-up yet: I'd rather check if it'd be worth going first.

I know the hut is said to sleep 10 and we have minibus space for 12 but has a maximum number been set for the weekend? (It's only a small hut and 12 will be a bit cramped)

As a responsible member of the eJMCS, I have to remind the club that the capacity of the Smiddy hut is 10 and no camping is allowed in the near vicinity.
As a somewhat disgruntled member of the eJMCS, I couldn't care less what you do so long as you don't trash the place!
Hope that helps and you have a great weekend up there - I'm still jealous, but shouldn't be too long for me now.
Cheers

I can't believe I'm missing the Smiddy hut trip - this is a first!
The trip was slightly earlier last year (I think feb 20th) but tom and I managed some lovely climbing in the sun on some very underused crags - I think the name was golden crag - and then the following day on some crags nearer the sea. Check out the guide book for the area, there is stacks of climbing a short drive and short walk away, on rock which probably hardly ever gets climbed.
Ben Dearg is what Tom, Katie, Jack and I did at new year. We stayed in Shenavall bothy. It would be a long walk from the road for a day walk, but it was an easy day out from the bothy, and an excellent mountain.

Yes, its a great wee hut in a fantastic location - fine hills, excellent scrambling, accessible crags, and even a boulder by the hut, as described in here:

Cosmic!

Looking at the weather and the amount I have to get done I think I'll have to give it a miss this weekend. Hopefully the concert hasn't sold out yet!
Anyone interested in trying Beinn Dearg etc. during the summer? Particularly if there's a handy bothy to use as a base.
