TBC days: votes for where to go

Postby StrangeSandwiches on Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:38 pm

Since we've got several Sunday trips 'to be confirmed' on the meet list, do we want to try to find people's preferences for where to go on those days?
I'd like to have another crack at Ben Cruachan, since we barely got onto the main ridge last year before calling it off due to high winds. Or Beinn a'Ghlo, for a good high-level walk to get people used to winter kit without needing it in earnest.

That's a fair suggestion, but the major reason they're TBC is so we can decide where to go depending on the weather. So feel free to canvas opinion, but if the weather doesn't play ball, there're no guarantees!

I know it'll depend on the weather and the driver will have the final say. I just thought it might help if we know where would be popular areas, to choose from nearer the time. I suppose ideally we'd end up with a short-list in various areas, and be able to choose by the Wednesday the one which looks like having the best weather.

As far as I'm concerned, on the day trips we either climb or walk (duu).

If it's good weather then it's climbing nowhere much more than 2 hours away with easy access and a range of lower end grades to allow a full day as possible for all involved, ideally with some classic harder routes nearby so the guys that will end up leading for most of the day can go and do something more suited to themselves.

In poor or uncertain weather (i.e. from 2 weeks ago until about February), then we go walking somewhere near to Crianlarich - there's certainly not a shortage of destinations there - or perhaps somewhere else of similar distance, again ideally not more than 2 hours drive.

Only 3 day trips left this term - 15th November, 6th and 13th December, so get thinking as the weather can actually be really good at this time of year! (If you don't believe me have a look at the dates of last years day trips on Flickr)

BBC weather is predicting a fairly settled, cold weekend to come - suggestions for a good mixed climbing/walking trip. I could very likely be persuaded to start early by somebody else with technical axes....
