Summer Trips

Postby Plastic Puller on Sun Jun 07, 2009 1:57 pm

Anyone interested in doing something as a group in a few weeks (mid/late July) in the Lakes (or Glen Etive)? 2 to 3 hrs away so we can easily have two full days.

We could either go in a couple of cars or a bus if there's enough of us. Tents would be ideal but we'll need to book campsites soon.

I'm open to alternative suggestions.

I'm definitely up for a trip. I think we won't be able to get a minibus as we've overspent our transport budget, but there's hopefully enough with cars and anyway, there's always the possibility of hiring one (I have no idea of costs though).

As for booking, at least in Scotland, wild camping's always available. In fact that was the plan for Glen Etive earlier in the year anyway. I think it's better to leave it a wee bit nearer the time to decide exactly when, if at all possible, for weather reasons. I don't want another Skye trip, good fun as it was!

I was actually thinking about going back to Skye some time over the summer, so that's another idea...

Wild camping is always an option which is nice and flexible for venue/weather. Otherwise there's always bothy's. What's the bothy situation in the Lakes? Early Sat start, walk out to a bothy, stay Sat night, walk back to car sun pm, both days with something interesting on the way.

Somewhere close-ish would keep fuel costs lower and travel time down. Was just thinking if there was anywhere people wanted to go we might need to book... also those working might be filling their weekends already!!

I will be up in Skye for a week from this Saturday (13th)
Always willing to discuss doing something, but you'll probably need to arrange your own transport and accommodation, I'm afraid.
(I want to do the Blaven Clac Glas traverse, if anyone is interested)

Cheers

I would be interested, but I'm still trying to get money to replace all the kit I've written off over the last year! Good luck with finding places to go. If you need stuff from the shed, I've not got round to giving Kyle's keys back to reception yet.
Good luck with Bla Bheinn, Mike. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better for you than it was for us!

Managed to spend a whole year without posting here - anyway

I'm really up for some climbing this summer. I've got to start getting involved with club trips instead of running off all the time with other climbers.
I've no preference where really cause I'm in Skye sometime in the next few weeks but i can't get enough of Skye.
Wanting to get to pass of Ballater sometime too.

Much as it sounds appealing Andy, I suppose I should be trying to get a job. Especially since my boots decided they didn't want to be waterproof any more when I was half-way up last time, and are currently with Karrimor to confirm that they're broken and get the money back. That's not the kind of terrain for anything short of sturdy boots.
