Car for sale, 1997 VW Polo - SOLD :)

Postby JP on Tue Feb 24, 2009 2:19 pm

VW Polo
1997 (P-reg), 97000miles, new battery, full service history, Tax and MOT until April.

I bought this from Mike for £200 back in September as we needed a 2nd car for commuting. As we are moving to Balerno soon I can bicycle to work so don't need it any more.
It is in good running order, although there is a little rust on the body work. The MOT runs out on the 7th April. If anyone is interested I am open to any sensible offers.

Hmmm...is it likely to pass the MOT? Christian 'might' be interested, as he's gonna need a car from May on.

Having said that, though, I've seen the way Mike drives his cars... ;)

Have you had to spend anything on it since you bought it from Mike?

What engine size is it (low tax or not)? Petrol or diesel?

I don't know of any reason why it would fail the MOT it is working fine, but then it is an old car so they might find something. When I bought it from Mike he was saying the killer would be rust on the wheel arches and said something about 2-3 years.

Since I have had it I had to replace the battery (which was very old so no surprises) and also the muffler/back part of the exhaust. The exhaust is blowing slightly I'm not sure where from but when the car was jacked up it looked like the old part of the exhaust had some life left in it.
The engine is 1.4 petrol so it is the lower of the two old tax bands, I can't remember what price that is.

If we were staying in Gorebridge I would be keeping the car but we are buying a flat in Balerno so I don't need it any more and also have a big deposit to pay on the flat. I would like to avoid paying the tax, MOT, servicing etc as I need the money for the deposit and probably wouldn't recover it if I sold the car anyway.

One thing I could do if you are interested is get an MOT test done before the current one expires. There would then be 10 day's to fix anything that might cause it to fail and you could decide if you want to pay the bills.

Correct - I got this quote from a bodywork specialist when I was considering getting the rust treated. Its got about 2 years MOT-life in it now, I reckon.
